Newport, Oregon

I feel I must begin in the region where I reside. The Pacific Northwest is a flat out, beautiful region of the United States and is one of the most temperate. Any time we need a break from the rigors of life, we make plans to go spend time in the mountains or coastlines of Oregon and Washington. Some of the prettiest coastlines in the world can be found in Oregon and Washington.

The Duet

My wife and I love Newport, Oregon and we always enjoy our excursions there. During the Summer it can be crazy so we usually opt for early Spring or early Fall when vacations haven’t really started yet, or are over for the most part, and things are much more laid-back. There are cool shops in the old town portion of Newport and newer type shops closer to the water on the West side of Highway 101. There is even an Irish pub called Nana’s. Have a lovely respite there with a pint of Guinness and a Scotch Egg. There are very nice to decent places to stay that suit every wallet, from being on the water in a hotel, to renting an Air BnB in a coastal neighborhood, you’ll find whatever it is your looking for in a place to stay. Peak season makes it more difficult to find places that will suit your needs so if you can go in an off-season, then I highly recommend that move.

Yaquina Head Lighthouse, Newport, Oregon

Newport, Oregon, has a lovely little lighthouse called Yaquina Head Lighthouse. It’s rather photogenic and, if you can incorporate a sunset into your photograph of this particular beacon of light, then the memory will be that much sweeter. They give tours of the property that include some out-buildings and you’re able to get a full history of the lighthouse. It can make for a fun couple of hours while getting a history lesson to boot. The Pacific Northwest Coast has a few lighthouses to go see and learn about and they lend flavor to the overall experience of an Oregon Coast trip.

Folks enjoying the sunset in Newport, Oregon

For as many times as I have been to the coast of Oregon, I never seem to get the same sunset shot, twice. They’re all unique from one another and, depending on what you’re using to capture your photos, you can really come home with some stellar shots. We love the coast, my wife a little more than me, I like the forests, me more than my wife, but it lends to us having a variety of places to go and explore that we will both enjoy. After a fun filled day of exploring and image capturing, there isn’t anything better to do than relax, have a lovely beverage of your choosing and watching the sunset at Newport Beach, Oregon. It’s definitely worth the trip!
